I love organizing information. This found a natural expression when in 1997 when I was in Chennai working in Goldwire Communications. Their newly created web division (heydays of the Internet) was working on website projects and I was asked to structure a site and write copy for the pages.
I spontaneously drew a map of all the pages and their interlinking. A senior copywriter even laughed it off saying I was “drawing boxes”. But I found the programmers passing the map around and using it. I had discovered information architecture maps or maybe site maps at a very basic level.
After joining a telecom company, I tried to map out their existing consumer facing site and whatever projects I got to work on:
